January 1, 2023: Visited Gunma to watch the “New Year Ekiden”

January 1, 2023: Visited Gunma to watch the “New Year Ekiden”, an annual men's ekiden over 100 kilometers which takes place on 1st January.  The race is a national championship contested between Japan's corporate running teams, and NTN team finished in 29th place this year. Although NTN team did not achieve its target of 15th place, I was very much encouraged by the powerful running of those top runners. “Happy New Year 2023 !!” 🥳

September 15, 2024: Attended the 30th-anniversary memorial service in Tokyo for Master Wataru Okawa (大川渉師範), the founder of Kenseikan (拳誠館) Karate, where I had an unexpected reunion with Mr. Nandana Wijewardana, who runs a dojo and teaches karate in Canada. I was also able to reconnect with many others I had missed, and together we fondly remembered Master Okawa. May 7, 2025: Visited my alma mater, Waseda University and gave a lecture to graduate students in the School of Creative Science and Engineering who aspire to become business leaders. As always, I was impressed by the talent and potential of these young students. May 8, 2025: Deguchi, Katori, Sogo, and Okui reunite for the first time in 43 years at “Muromachi Fukuwa Uchi (室町 福は内) ” in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.

May 17-18, 2025 Stay at Wakei Juku, a student dormitory in Tokyo

May 18, 2025: Yesterday, I stayed at Wakei Juku, a student dormitory in Tokyo, for the first time in a year, as there was a grand gathering of karate club alumni held at the Main Hall. This morning, I had breakfast in the cafeteria together with the current students. It reminded me once again of how strong and precious the bond is among those who shared the same meals and spent their youthful days together. Last year when I stayed here, breakfast in the cafeteria was bread, but this morning it was rice. Just like in the old days, rice and miso soup were available for unlimited refills. A memorial service for Master Oka, who passed away at the end of last year, was held on May 17th. Despite the rain, 70 alumni of Kenseikan Karate Club attended to honor his memory.
